Thanks to input from Gurbir Singh, Chris Riley and the YG50 team, the timeline of Yuri Gagarin’s tour of the UK is coming together well:

We hope that many of the remaining gaps will be filled in through the appeal for memories.

Vix Southgate is researching, and has collated, a timeline of Gagarin’s entire life, which our webmaster, Quentin Stanley will soon be publishing online in an easily updateable format.

The YG50 microgravity Droplet Educational eXperiment (muDEX) signed a protocol in December 2010 to show the support of both Roscosmos and the UK Space Agency.  muDEX will feature as one of the key projects of the Russian-UK year of space being announced in Feb 2011.

Barnaby Osborne at Kingston University comments "YG50-muDEX is a microgravity experiment that will be performed onboard the International Space Station (ISS) and in classrooms.  It primarily seeks to emphasise and encourage interest and further study in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) related subjects and will be targeted at school children between the ages of 12 and 18.  The experiment is currently undergoing detailed design to comply with the requirements of being flown to and operating onboard the ISS." For more details  on this and YG50-muDEX  please see: http://yurigagarin50.org/about/yg50-microgravity-experiment

YG50 has launched an appeal for memories from people who met or saw Gagarin during his visit to the UK.  Memories and photos can be submitted through the YuriGagarin50 website:

YG50 Chair, Dr Chris Welch has been snapping pictures of supporters of YuriGagarin50 with our logo. So far we have captured on film, two astronauts and several other space people. We would love to see your YG50 pictures in our photo pool on Flickr www.flickr.com/groups/yg50 . You can download the YG50 logo from :
