HELP US TO CELEBRATE 50 YEARS OF HUMAN SPACEFLIGHT
07:07 BST on 12 April 2011 will be the 50th Anniversary of the launch of Gagarin’s rocket Vostok-1 and the start of his spaceflight.
To mark this historic achievement, YuriGagarin50 would like you to join us on the South Bank, dressed like Gagarin in orange space suits (an orange boiler suit will suffice, failing that, just wear orange!).
Depending on the response, YuriGagarin50 is considering booking a pod on the London Eye for an 'orbit'.
There will be a cost involved to participants should you wish to join us.
Please put 'Yuri Walk' and/or 'Yuri Orbit' as the subject matter in your email.
12th April 2011 at 07:00 BST
Please meet up in Jubilee Gardens at about 06:45 - Look for the people in Orange!
Meet in Jubilee Gardens (if it is raining meet under Hungerford Bridge, SouthBank side)
We intend to walk from the North Corner of Jubilee Gardens, across Waterloo Bridge, along the Embankment. Crossing back across the Thames via Westminster Bridge and the back to Jubilee Gardens, passing by the London Eye. That shold take about 36 minutes, so three laps would be 108 minutes - the time Yuri Gagarin took to orbit the earth!
A Yuri Gagarin inspired Spacesuit (instructions below) or simply - something orange
YURI COSTUME IDEAS:
Orange Boiler Suit
Black Boots (lace up)
(I paid approx £15 for suit and gloves on Ebay and I have an old motorbike helmet which I am considering adapting for the space helmet).

ANY OTHER IDEAS WELCOMED!!!
Buy a balloon and blow it up to larger than the size of your head.
Cover three-quarters of the balloon in papier-mache or mod-rock (or both) (at least 5mm thick for stability)
Leave to dry.
Once dry, pop the balloon, trim to size and cut out the visor area.
If it is not white - spray it!
Write CCCP in orange letters across the front
If you want to be extra fancy / accurate
Mould raised ridges onto the top.
Add a clear visor (attach with split pins)
